Youth and the Future Website
What if design could amplify the work of indigenous-led organization committed to local resilience and regeneration? With a team of volunteers we designed, developed and implemented a website for Youth and the Future, empowering local Cameroonian with the guidance of Bafut wisdom.

the Story
Supporting indigneous-led futures
Youth and the Future’s mission is to empower marginalised communities in Cameroon’s north-west and south-west regions. Princess Abumbi and her team support young people, women, and children to drive positive change for themselves and their communities, in a region severely impacted by civil war and lack of resources. Youth and the Future works with advocacy, sustainable practices, and the preservation and revival of local Bafut traditions.
Princess Abumbi has been a partner of Design Reparations since the beginning. Youth and the Future needed a website to promote the work of the NGO and facilitate donations.
How we gathered
We formed a team of volunteers that were inspired by Youth and the Future’s work and wanted to contribute with their skills.
In our weekly meetings, Princess Abumbi would share the work of the NGOs together with the wisdom and traditions of the Bafut communities and how those influenced the work and the impact of the NGOs.
Together we identified the main projects, we wrote the texts and built a WordPress website that Youth and the Future could use for communicating their work and that would allow visitors to donate and get in touch with the organization.
In the process, the team had the opportunity to learn traditional ways of living and working and finding ways to embed them in their design practice.
